Edinburgh Futures Institute by Bennetts Associates

This Category A Listed Victorian infirmary building was in very poor condition, with extensive dry rot, water penetration and structural issues. The practice’s extraordinary transformation of this building has brought its historic architecture boldly into the future. Edinburgh Futures Institute now innovatively integrates complex new interventions with extensive renovations and the uncovering of existing fabric. This achieves a seamless dialogue between old and new, combined with exquisite detailing, environmental foresight, and social ambition.

HM Prison and Young Offender Institution Stirling Holmes Miller Architects

This ambitious and quietly radical project replaces HMP & YOI Cornton Vale, and marks a fundamental rethinking of custodial environments in Scotland. Working in close collaboration with the Scottish Prison Service and the Cornton Vale management team, the architects developed an entirely new model from the ground up, creating a campus of carefully arranged pavilions embedded within the landscape, supporting women in custody through spaces that promote dignity, equality and meaningful rehabilitation.
